Background
A UK enterprise partnered with Reenbit to develop and launch an Innovation Portal. The goal was to create an intuitive, engaging, and mobile-friendly innovation management experience — accessible directly from the company’s SharePoint Online environment — so employees and stakeholders could easily submit ideas, share best practices, request support, and collaborate around internal challenges.
Challenges
The key challenge was pixel-accurate UI/UX alignment with the provided design inside the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem.
Native Power Apps controls were not enough to replicate advanced interactions (e.g., hover behaviors, tile focus/blur effects, dynamic banners, and visually consistent status indicators).
To meet the expected experience, we had to extend the platform using custom PCF components while keeping performance and responsiveness across devices.
Features
The portal was designed to support the full innovation lifecycle with a clear, structured submission model and engagement-first homepage experience, including:
- Automated notifications with configurable and responses (email + Teams), including tagging by keywords/themes
- SharePoint Online integration: centralized repository for uploaded files/links, structured lists for review and progress tracking
- UI enhancements: refreshed interface with status color codes and a “View all submitted ideas” tile
- SharePoint Online integration: centralized repository for uploaded files/links, structured lists for review and progress tracking
- Configurable data fields (tick boxes, dropdowns, tag lists) with admin control over keywords/tags
- Homepage engagement elements: welcome message, 4 interactive tiles with hover info, campaign banner CTA, “recent submissions” preview with navigation, and contextual tips.
Solution
We built a portal using Microsoft Power Platform, with a delivery approach focused on UX fidelity, automation, and SharePoint-native adoption:
- Implemented custom PCF components to match the design precisely and enable advanced UI behaviors (hover states, tile focus/blur, consistent status visuals, interactive homepage blocks).
- Designed a structured data model for innovations, status tracking, tagging, and submission history.
- Integrated Email and Teams notifications for submitters, innovation leadership, champions, and relevant groups — driven by tags and keywords.
- Enabled secure access, role-based permissions, and preparation for KPI reporting via Power BI.
- Ensured the portal functions smoothly in SharePoint Online, with centralized document storage and a streamlined review workflow.
Outcome
- 2× higher employee engagement in sharing innovation ideas
- ~30% shorter idea-to-implementation cycle thanks to streamlined submissions, automated routing, and clear status tracking.
The client received a modern, user-friendly Innovation Portal that simplifies innovation submissions and collaboration for employees and stakeholders. The solution improved usability with a design-matching UI and enabled mobile-first participation. It also reduced manual work through automation and improved tracking and KPI visibility.
