Background

Our client, a well-established fashion retailer from Switzerland, needed a comprehensive data pipelines and reporting system for their operational data, particularly focusing on official shop sales data. Their data sources included Shopify (via API) and historical sales data from Prestashop stored in Excel files. The goal was to integrate these sources into a single accessible database, ensuring streamlined data ingestion and automated reporting for real-time analytics.

Challenges

One of the major challenges was extracting data from Shopify using their GraphQL API. Azure Data Factory (ADF) does not provide a default connector for GraphQL, making direct data querying complex. Additionally, the client required a secure and efficient way to integrate multiple data sources while maintaining data consistency and accessibility.
